Yes agreed, that does sound very odd indeed. Hopefully there might be an outcry to change the situation, particularly from Pfizer.

The Doctors' Association UK has issued a statement today and sent a letter to the government criticizing and condemning these actions. They are also saying they have serious concerns on the legality of this decision, as we all signed a form agreeing to have the vaccine according to the manufacturer's instructions (which is 2nd dose after 3 weeks).

Pfizer has issued a statement saying that, despite the fact that local authorities can decide to change regimes as they please, they are doing so without any clinical evidence.

What the government is doing is not just shambolic, it's also playing right into the hands of antivaxxers.

Unbelievable...!!!!! Can the Government be overruled on this? (I’m not sure about the ins and outs of the situation legally, but I would personally be disregarding the Government over this if I was in charge of the vaccination program!)

I hope the Scottish Government disregard them too, so that people can continue being vaccinated in Scotland - although that still wouldn’t help the rest of the UK.

Honestly... I thought Nazi governments became a thing of the past when World War II was won, but when I read about things like this happening I think that maybe I was wrong.

Let's see what happens next week. Unfortunately the Scottish government cannot change this decision because the supplies of vaccines have to come trough Westminster.

The Times today posted an article saying the UK didn't calculate dosis properly and it has ran out of vaccines. Would not be surprised if it's true.

Others are saying they will offer people the AZ vaccine. I will decline because I had the Pfizer one which is completely different and we don't know if injecting yourself with both may cause terrible side effects.

Ran out of vaccines? What sort of game are they playing over there? That is just such a ridiculous claim surely?

I’m in disbelief about this situation. If proof was needed that this current UK Government are f-ing useless, this is it. They couldn’t organise a booze-up in a brewery.

Deeply concerning that Westminster so much control that they can abuse like this.
Scottish Independence really can’t happen soon enough!

So, the AstraZeneca vaccine has now started being rolled out, with doses being administered in Scotland:

A step forward obviously, but it doesn’t restart the process of giving the right people the Pfizer one.

Yep... I  am still so pissed off about it! lol

Nicola today said that in Scotland there won't be a mix and match of vaccines, which makes me feel better and happy to have a second dose whenever they give me an appointment.

There is no clinical trials data on a (Covid Pfizer) booster more than three weeks from first dose, but many boosters are given months and some years later and they are still effective.

Totally don’t blame you, I think you’re justified in however angry you get and however long you stay angry for TBH!

Yeah, fortunately Nicola has her head screwed on so much better than Boris or his cronies do, and it’s shown again here! At least the vaccination process here should be more organised to some extent than it will be in England.

I’m really hoping you’ll still be able to get vaccinated properly(Along with everyone else) in spite of this cock-up.

Nicola she is great: yesterday she spoke clearly and answered questions for over an hour, live! Johnson spoke for 8 minutes (and it didn't look live but recorded).

Comes May people have to vote SNP to gain independence.

It has not been peer reviewed yet but Pfizer has tested the new variants (the UK and the SA ones) on people that have been immunised and they have confirmed their vaccine works on both strains. Fantastic news!

That is brilliant! And a big relief! Very Happy

Let’s hope we can get a move on with the vaccination program now, before the virus manages to mutate any more. Smile

Apparently some people in England have declined the Pfizer vaccine and prefer to wait for the 'English' one... can somebody tell them Italians were involved too?  Razz

Even though the situation is terrible in the UK right now, we can see the light at the end of the tunnel thanks to scientists.

Australians scientists later changed their mind but won't say why. lol

Scientists call for pause on AstraZeneca vaccine rollout

The Australian and New Zealand Society for Immunology says the federal government should immediately pause the planned rollout of the AstraZeneca vaccine because it may not be effective enough to generate herd immunity.
Phase three clinical trials of the vaccine, which is the centrepiece of Australia's vaccination strategy, show it is only 62 per cent effective in preventing COVID-19 when given in the recommended dose. Trials suggest vaccines from Pfizer and Moderna are about 95 per cent effective.

Immunology society president Professor Stephen Turner said based on current trial evidence the AstraZeneca vaccine should not be widely rolled out.
“The AstraZeneca vaccine is not one I would be deploying widely, because of that lower efficacy,” he said. “You cannot rely on it to establish herd immunity.”

I meant to reply sooner but got distracted, LOL:

Yeah, absolutely! Science is making such a big difference, has been doing for centuries, and it’s making an even bigger difference now as the speed of scientific development is increasing.
I think it’s amazing now to think that centuries ago, people thought the spread of disease was because of evil spirits, witchcraft etc; just because they couldn’t see the things which were causing the diseases. I guess it seems bonkers now but back then it wasn’t, because nobody knew better. I feel very fortunate to be living in a time when science is so much more advanced and able to help and protect us.

RE The article: Yeah, that is strange! But what surprises me is that the AstraZeneca vaccine only has 62% efficacy - I thought it was close in effectiveness to the Pfizer vaccine for some reason. If that’s the case - only 62% - then that’s unfortunate.
